DR. KENNETH WELTY
PROFESSOR, SCHOOL OF EDUCATION

Dr. Welty serves as Senior Personnel for the NCETE UW-Stout site. He teaches professional courses and directs the undergraduate technology teacher education program. Over the last 20 years, he has authored over 20 publications and made over 85 presentations about technological literacy; integrating mathematics, science and technology; addressing the needs of girls and young women; and implementing pedagogically sound instruction. He also served as a technology education curriculum consultant for the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and contributed narratives for chapters 3 and 8 of Benchmarks for Science Literacy, evaluated standards for the study of technology, provided input for the development of a chapter on teacher education in Blueprints for Reform, and helped validate protocols for evaluating instructional materials in terms of their alignment with national standards. His most recent work included reviewing several "strand maps" for the Atlas for Science Literacy. He also served on the International Technology Education Association (ITEA) Standards Review Committee for the National Research Council (NRC). He recently completed 3 years of work as the external evaluator for the Children Designing & Engineering Project (NSF Award No. 9730627). Lastly, he is serving as a Co-Principal Investigator of the "21st Century Urban Technical Education Project - Phase II" (NSF Award No. 0202399) and is conducting research to inform the alignment of standards-based curricula between secondary and post-secondary technical education programs.
