Dr. James Dorward serves as the Internal Evaluator for NCETE. He has been Co-PI on three related NSF-funded projects. Building Evaluation Capacity of STEM Projects ($1,500,000; three years) was funded by MSP in October 2002 to provide evaluation technical assistance to large-scale mathematics and science partnership projects. Dr. Dorward provides content expertise and serves as the project liaison to 7 MSP Comprehensive and Targeted projects. This work has resulted in two conference presentations. The Instructional Architect: A System for Discovering, Recommending, and Combining Learning Objects (#85855, $408,000; two years) was funded by DUE in 2000 and Creating a National Library of Interactive Web-Based Virtual Manipulatives K-8 Mathematic was funded by ESIE in 1999 (#9819107, $1,200,000; three years). The Instructional Architect project created service software enabling NSDL users to easily search, retrieve, compile and re-use web-based learning objects. The National Library of Virtual Manipulatives project created a web-based collection of interactive tools, including designed applets and associated activities that have been evaluated and disseminated. This work has resulted in eight publications and two commercial license agreements with curriculum publishers.
