The USU College of Engineering invites nominations and applications for the position of Associate Dean for Undergraduate Affairs and Department Head of Engineering Education (AD&DH).
The College of Engineering has close to 1700 undergraduate students majoring in seven ABET-accredited undergraduate programs in biological, civil, computer, electrical, environmental and mechanical engineering and computer science. The AD&DH is responsible for undergraduate student academic and career advising, review of student progress, special accommodations for students and other issues that directly impact undergraduate students within the College. The AD&DH directly supervises a staff of four career advisors and one support staff. The AD&DH is expected to provide college- and campus-level leadership in the areas of recruiting freshmen and transfer students, student retention, curricular affairs, student services and undergraduate academic policies. The AD&DH is a member of the Dean's leadership team that includes two other associate deans and five department heads.
USU is among the first three programs in the country to offer a PhD program in Engineering Education and is currently changing the name and mission of the department from Engineering and Technology Education to Engineering Education to reflect this distinction.The aviation technology programs and the pre-service and in-service technology teacher education programs are in the process of moving to the College of Agriculture. As department head, the AD&DH will be expected to provide overall leadership to the newly named Engineering Education Department including faculty mentoring, personnel, budget, facilities, and class offerings.The AD&DH also oversees the engineering pre-professional program (freshmen and sophomore years) on the Logan campus as well as the Associates Degree in Pre-engineering (APE) program offered through four regional campuses. The department houses four tenured and tenure-track faculty involved in teaching the pre-professional program on the USU Logan campus and five faculty teaching in the APE program at the regional campuses. The tenured and tenure track faculty conduct research in engineering education and support a PhD program in Engineering Education. The AD&DH will give direction to support research and scholarship among the faculty and build on the current reputation of the program to bring further national and international prominence to USU.
We seek an individual who can provide strong, dynamic and innovative leadership to advance excellence in the area of undergraduate academic affairs as well as in research, teaching and service in the emerging field of engineering education. In addition to a proven record of scholarly achievement, the candidate must have demonstrated experience in undergraduate advising, a commitment to engineering and computer science education, and effective management and interpersonal skills. The candidate should have an earned doctorate in an engineering discipline or related area, computer science, or engineering education, and be eligible for a tenured full professor appointment.
